Voynich manuscript

I wanted the mailer to feel like it is an ancient manuscript that was found in the Ashmole library in Oxford.

The following are notes I made in my research:

Use a legible but script font for display. Maybe also a black letter for emphasis. Would love to play around with green, red, and blue lines as it appears in the Voynich. Reuse some of the plant drawings in the background or where it fits to fill empty space. Create a layer of depth with the folds so that as they open it deeper, it reveals the truth.

research:

- To recreate the mystery surrounding the Voynich Manuscript that allows the viewer to navigate themselves.

Goals:

- Create a mailer that has at least two foldable components with facets that convey the mystery of a topic or object from the past.

The Voynich manuscript is an old document that was found by Wilfred Voynich, a manuscript collector/seller, in his collection. The document has illustrations of fantasy plants and scenes similar to alchemy, with an unknown language. The text is undecipherable, has an unknown meaning and origin.

but the mystery still remains… is a hoax or is it meaningful?

Design goal:

show why this manuscript is so interesting in a way that is organized

A leather paper envelope that encompasses the rest of the Mailer to give it a medieval feel.

I used the twist fold for this mailer to visually show the manuscript on the outside. When unfolded, it reveals the context and mystery. In the middle of the fold, there is an accordion fold that talks about the previous owners and possible authors of the manuscript.
